Demon hunter Ragnar Holt carries a chained greatsword, a left arm wrapped in iron and prayer chains, and a contract from the Grand Inquisitor: kill the Witch of the Thornmere before Hollow Night, for a thousand crowns. Raven Sinclair is waiting in her half-sunken tower with the tea already poured. She knows exactly what sleeps inside his arm, because she put it there. If she dies, something far worse than a witch walks out of the marsh, so the hunter becomes her guard, and the nights get very long.
