In rain-soaked Gaegyeong a general rules the court, and Crown Prince Seol Ji-hwan is a prisoner with a crown. Disgraced poet Im Si-won is one stroke of the blade from losing his writing hand when the ice-cold prince claims him as his personal scribe. Every night in the Lotus Pavilion, Ji-hwan dictates love poems to a lady no one has ever seen, his hand closing over Si-won's on the brush. Then the men hidden in the verses start dying, and Si-won realizes he is writing their death warrants.
