In the Silvergrove, iron is forbidden: its touch burns elven skin. Yet Queen Hong Seol summons Joo Han-seul, a human blacksmith, because the black blight eating her forest can only be cut by cold iron. He must forge the blade inside a court that wants him gone, for a queen he is not allowed to touch, and every night she comes to watch the fire. Then he sees the grey bark creeping up her wrist.
