A storm throws Ragnar Holt onto the black-sand beach of Astrava, a white island city where women have ruled and fought for three hundred years. By law, a man from the sea must fight in the Arena of Tides. He wins, and fiery Queen Valentina Cruz claims him as the city's first male champion, to the fury of Shield Guard captain Kwak Min-seo and the quiet interest of the oracle, Raven Sinclair. There is just one problem: Ragnar was sent here to open the city's gates.
