In the winter court of Joseon, three royal painters have tried to paint Crown Prince Jae-ha, and all three are dead. The court calls it a curse. Joo Han-seul, a low-born painter, calls it murder, because the third painter was his master, and he makes sure the lot falls on him. Forty-nine days to finish the portrait before the investiture, night sittings alone with the man he suspects, and one rule he keeps breaking: never look the prince in the eye.
